I offer the following as an example of how the Mass Media can deceive (i.e. “lie”) while not doing so officially. I live in the Mid-Hudson Valley of New York. This area has a lot of UFO activity. I have seen a good number, as it is difficult not to see them. I need to be clear. I am NOT advancing that these things are anything more than unidentified (to me!) objects. They may well be unusual airplanes that I do not recognize. I should add that there are at least three military bases (including West Point) and a medium size commercial airport in the extended area.
A cable TV show called “Unsolved Mysteries” contained a feature on the Hudson Valley UFOs. Most of it was (mis)information that I already knew. This included one explanation that the largest nighttime UFO was actually some ultra light planes, flying low in a rigid formation. I know for a fact that this can NOT be so. However, let me deal with what the show presented.
These ultra lights supposedly take off from Stormville “airport.” This airport is flat piece of land (adjacent to a maximum security prison!) that is used primarily for major flea markets. If there were no sign then no one, even while walking across the “runway,” would know that it was an airport. However, I have seen small planes take off from it, in daylight.
To establish the point that this was the cause of the UFO sightings the TV show showed a person (identified with a supposed real name, but nothing more), apparently working in what appeared to be an airport control tower. It looked like the ones on TV and in the movies. He looked through some binoculars and spoke to his partner, while both of them sat in front of radar type machines. He commented that he saw “something taking off” from “over there at Stormville.” That is, he was not at Stormville, but could see it from where he was.
The nearest (sort of) real airport is Dutchess County Airport. This is the ONLY place where an air controller could be working in the area. It is bigger than Stormville, but then nothing could be smaller. It has a two-story building that MAY have a control tower. However, because of the local geography, it under no circumstances, could anyone see from one to the other. So this controller(?) could not have been an eyewitness.
However, the program did NOT identify him with a title, or identify his profession, or where he was when he “saw” the Stormville activity. The program simply allowed the viewer no other conclusion. As I mentioned before, I offer it only as an example of how the media can intentionally and utterly mislead, without offering specific lies. There is no advantage to lying about the UFO’s in this area, unless we hold that those aliens control the networks. Maybe it is simply that the Mass Media simply can not resist the addiction.
