THE IMMIGRANT ELEPHANT (IN THE ROOM)
I like conspiracy theories. I do not think that I do any more than most people. They are attractive. Their primary characteristic is that they fill in gaps in otherwise incomplete explanations and analysis (which is a great title for a publication). Even when they are rather “extreme” they still attract… at least they attract me. I offer one, mostly for fun, even if it lacks perfect credibility.
I once watched a film about wild elephants. This is not quite true, as I shall explain. The movie took place in one of those Asian nations where elephants are still used as “machines.” That is they carry heavy loads, etc. The workers go out in the woods and find a wild female elephant. In this case she was a mother with a nearly fully grown calf. They trap and confine the mother and chase off the child. Then they begin a process of training, so that the mother will become a useful resource. I should add that it appeared that the new owners treated the new “employee” well.
Why was the calf not kept? A related question is: why not raise an elephants from birth? Younger elephants probably are more readily trained. The answer is simple. Until capture the mother lives in the jungle and feeds herself and the calf, costing the owners precisely nothing. An already “raised” elephant is thus a more profitable asset. One that needed years of feeding and care, before becoming a worker, is not so profitable. The process of delayed taming makes sense.
The reality of illegal immigration involves mostly young adults. It is not always so easy for younger children to cross the border. What the USA wants, legally or illegally, are young adults, who are healthy workers. Especially desired are those who have some training in basic skills, and are family men who send money home. In other words, these people have already been raised, at the expense of their families back in Mexico. When they get here they are like that mother elephant. Lots of the expenses have already been paid for. The resulting profits have been increased. This may be why nothing really will get done to solve the “immigration problem.”
I think that the establishment may have seen the same movie that I did.
